Toddler rescued by family dog

Posted: Updated:
COOPERSTOWN, ND (WKOW) -- A family dog is being called a hero after a 3-year-old in North Dakota wandered away from home earlier this week.

Courtney and Brock Urness noticed their son, Carson was missing just before dinner time on Monday. They searched all over the house and the farm yard before they realized he must have wandered off.

That's when they noticed the family dog, Cooper, was also missing. They figured the two were together and hoped for the best.

Then at 2 a.m. on Tuesday the Urnesses got a call saying Carson, and Cooper, had been found safe and sound about a mile away from home. When they were found, Cooper was actually laying on top of Carson keeping him warm in the woods overnight.

And if you thought this story couldn't get anymore heart-warming, Cooper had been rescued by the family as a puppy when they found him abandoned on the side of the road. You could say that Cooper was just returning the favor.
