Madison Water Utility issues alert for Madison's East side

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Water Utility is advising residents on the east side of Madison to flush their taps after an equipment malfunction resulted in higher-than-normal amounts of chlorine being added to the distribution system.

The utility says the chlorine levels still fall within the state and federal allowable amounts, but residents in the affected area should still flush their basement cold water taps for 10 minutes as a precaution.

The following neighborhoods may be affected:

Milwaukee Street south to East Buckeye Road between Stoughton Rd & Meadowlark Dr. This includes the areas of Onyx Park and Acewood park.

East Buckeye Road South to Pflaum between Stoughton Rd & and interstate. This includes the Orlando Bell Park and East Buckeye neighborhoods.

The utility says the well has been shut down until equipment repairs can be made.

They are currently flushing the water mains in the area to clear the water from the system.
