Lakes still frozen up north

Posted: Updated:
MINOCQUA (WKOW) -- We're a week into May, but still, a little bit of winter is hanging on in northern Wisconsin.

Some lakes are still covered in ice.

Lake Minocqua has a lot of ice in the center parts of it.

The ice kept a lot of anglers away during the fishing opener.

Owners of a local bait shop say people are getting anxious and the entire town is feeling the impact.

"The mood's a little bit off, you would say. I think people want to get some warm weather so we can get some people up here and get people fishing again," says Jim Stewart.

The shorelines are open on many lakes, which is a good sign.

The local chamber of commerce director says she predicts the ice will melt by this weekend
