Man charged in the death of a Purdue student from Wisconsin changes lawyer, being treated for schizophrenia

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WKOW) -- A judge has decided to let the man charged with killing a student from Wisconsin on the Purdue University campus to drop his defense attorney.

A judge approved 23-year-old Cody Cousins request in an Indian court on Thursday. A public defender will now be appointed to represent Cousins. 

Cousins is charged with murder in the January death of 21-year-old Andrew Boldt of West Bend, Wisconsin. 

In court Thursday, Cousins also admitted he's being treated for schizophrenia in court. Thursday's admission was the first time Cousins has been directly linked to a mental health issue.
