UW students petition to play "Jump Around" at graduation

MADISON (WKOW) -- Pack it up, pack it in.  Let me begin.  I came to win.  I came to get down, I came to get down.  So get out your seats and Jump Around!

It's House of Pain's 1992 hit heard at Badger football games since '98 and UW-Madison's 2014 graduates have launched an online petition demanding campus officials to play the song during graduation May 17.

It's become the unofficial anthem for UW.  Graduates won't be called up to the stage or recognized individually during the ceremony, so the petition states if they can't walk, they should be allowed to jump.

University officials state they've been planning to play the song for months, but kept mum about it so it could be a surprise.

Petition organizer, senior Francesca Moroni says there was a landslide of support for including the game day favorite in commencement.

"For me, personally, the first time I felt I made the right choice, and really loved UW, was the first 'Jump Around" at Camp Randall," Moroni tells 27 News.

"A lot of my friends felt the same way. A lot of people who signed the petition were, 'This is tradition. We love it. Only way to go out. Go Badgers,' " Moroni says.

Returning graduation ceremonies to Camp Randall after a nearly quarter century absence will allow all six thousand graduates to share the event together, along with more space for family, friends, and other spectators.
