Wisconsin Public Radio cancels Chazen Concert Series

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin Public Radio's listeners heard a long-running tradition for the last time today.

Sunday afternoon was the last airing of the Chazen Concert Series featuring musicians from all over the state. Since 1978, live classical concerts have been broadcast out of the art museum on the UW campus.

WPR's director says the decision to cancel the show after 36 years is going to be a tough adjustment for many listeners.

"Especially with the people that are here today letting me know that they're concerned that we made this decision and then they of course disagree with it entirely and that makes me sad," said WPR Director Mike Crane.

WPR leaders say the broadcast was canceled because they don't have the proper funding and staff to keep it going.
