MADISON (WKOW) --- UW Police say they have arrested a 19-year-old for third degree sexual assault and false imprisonment.

According to UW Police, a female contacted their department that she had been sexually assaulted on May 2nd.  She told police she was in her residence hall room when 19-year-old Douglas M. Gill entered her room and sexually assaulted her.  The victim says Gill was drinking and had snorted cocaine prior to the assault.

UW Police took Gill into custody after a few hours of investigating.  Gill is in Dane County Jail on tentative charges of third degree sexual assault and false imprisonment.

The University reminds students to report sexual assaults as they have trained professionals to help in the sensitive incidents.   According to the UW, 20 percent of college female students experience a sexual assault.
