Jefferson pitchers nearly unhittable

Posted: Updated:

In 13 seasons as the head coach at Jefferson High School, Greg Fetherston has seen a lot, but he's never seen anything like this.

"Unheard of. We have some great pitchers that have command, have confidence, throw 2-3 pitches for strikes and are allowing our defense to makes plays, but to have it happen consecutively and six total on the season is pretty phenomenal and remarkable."

Last Tuesday against Parkview, the Eagles threw their fourth consecutive no-hitter and sixth of the season. It's the first time that's ever been done at Jefferson.

"They honestly believe every time they go up and throw, they're going to get an out."

The Eagles are now 15-1 overall, 9-1 in the conference.

"Their hard work is paying off, but they'll trade any one of those no-hitters for a regional championship, a sectional championship or a state championship."

Jefferson has never won a state championship. These ten seniors, including pitcher Heath Renz, have won just one playoff game in four years.

"We talk about it all the time because we know we have the talent to do it. We just have to put it all together."

It seems they're doing just that.
