Calf found shot, slaughtered in Janesville

Posted: Updated:
JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Janesville police are investigating after someone shot a calf, took its meat, and left the carcass behind.

The Janesville Gazette reports the calf was shot with a small-caliber bullet and slaughtered between noon Saturday and about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when it was found. The calf's mother was found bellowing nearby.

The newspapers reports Ochs Cattle of Milton owns the cow and rents the grazing land where it was found. The owner of the company says personnel will be on high alert and they are beefing up patrols.

The calf, which weighed about 400 pounds, was bred for showing and valued at about $1,000. It was born in February.
