Two horse carcasses found in Baraboo River

Posted: Updated:
BARABOO (WKOW) -- The Sauk County Sheriff's Office says they were notified of horse carcasses in the Baraboo River.

A kayaker traveling the river, just west of La Valle, notified authorities May 8.  A deputy was able to locate one of the horses with the help of the kayaker.  The second carcass was not located until May 9.

The horses have been identified as two reported as possibly stolen from a local stable in March.  The investigation never generated evidence of criminal activity.  At this time it's believed the horses drowned.
