Marriages, divorces down in Wisconsin last year

MADISON (WKOW) -- For the first time in three years, the number of people getting married in Wisconsin went down in 2013.

Weddings in the state had declined for 30 straight years before increase in 2011 and 2012. However, the number dropped in 2013, with 961 fewer weddings than the 29,979 in the state in 2012.

The state Department of Health Services on Wednesday reported the data, which also shows the number of divorces in Wisconsin continuing to decline.

There were 15,941 divorces in the state last year, making it the third year in a row there has been a decrease.

The most popular month to get married in 2013 was August, with January the least popular.
