UPDATE: Five in custody, one suspect at large after shooting in Fitchburg

Posted: Updated: May 14, 2014 11:20 PM
FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Five people were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a shooting in the 1900 Block of Pike Drive. No one was injured.

Fitchburg Police Lt. Todd Stetzer said shots were reported shortly after 4 p.m. Police arrived to find the suspects fleeing into nearby buildings.

Stetzer said the shots resulted from a dispute. He said it was too early to know what caused the argument.

"We took one of the subjects into custody shortly after we arrived on the scene and two other suspects that were accompanying him at the time of the shooting," Stetzer said.
Stetzer said police are still searching for another suspected shooter believed to be a black male last seen wearing a black jacket with white sleeves.

"There were a lot of people out in the neighborhood and when the shots started firing some people stepped out," he said. "There were kids in the area so again it's one of those situations where not only are the people in the dispute in danger, but the people standing out or in their homes are as well."

Stetzer said police don't believe anybody was hurt in the shooting but a parked car was hit by stray bullets.

Police eventually took two other individuals into custody for hindering their investigation, Stetzer said.

"There were witnesses that were being interviewed and some subjects interfered with the officers trying to drag those people away so they wouldn't talk to police," he said.

Stetzer said police do not believe the shooter at large is a threat to the public because the incident stemmed from a dispute.
