MADISON (WKOW)— Three days of set-up and 6,000 folding chairs later, Camp Randall is ready to hold the 2014 UW undergraduates, Masters candidates and their families. It will be the first outdoor ceremony in more than 20 years.
“I’m excited it's outside,” said Beth Schroeder, a UW alum who’s daughter, Ellie, graduates Saturday. “It was outside when I graduated from here.”
“Being outside, being in the stadium, getting to experience everyone graduating around you, it's more of a wholesome experience of UW and just sum everything up,” Ellie said.
In a break from tradition, graduates won't walk across the stage this year. Instead they'll stay in their seats and celebrate with the Camp Randall Anthem, Jump Around.
“I couldn't even put it in to words,” Ellie said. “So exciting, getting to relive some of the great memories at UW, getting to do Jump Around for the last time, going out with a bang really.”
And it’s not just the students who plan to jump.
“I do jump around, yeah,” Beth said. “I will be jumping around.”
Ellie says it will be the perfect send-off to life after gradation.
“It's exciting and daunting at the same time.”
Graduation starts at noon, the doors to Camp Randall open at 10. For information on security and parking, click here.
