UW graduation & move-out cause traffic problems

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Commencement and UW move-out caused some traffic hangups in downtown Madison Saturday.

For the first time in nearly a quarter-century, UW-Madison's graduation ceremony was held at Camp Randall Stadium the same weekend many students are busy moving out of the dorms and apartments all over campus.

UW police staffed the stadium as they would on a football Saturday, in anticipation of crowds and traffic nearby.

Students who were moving Saturday say the extra graduation traffic did get in the way a bit.

"It's definitely difficult with all the traffic going on," Logan Walovitch, a UW student, tells 27 News. "We were waiting trying to get to my apartment, it took half an hour just in the city with all the graduates walking around and all the cars on the street."

More than 50,000 were expected to be in Madison for commencement, so to meet parking demands all campus lots will be free through Sunday.
