MADISON (WKOW) -- The season is underway for Kennedy Little League here in Madison at the team works to move on after a controversy.
Saturday at Kennedy Little League Park Bernie Brewer made an appearance to cheer on players and take pictures with fans.
Former President Stephen Verhage was sentenced to 11 months in jail in April after embezzling money from the group during his 22 years.
Current President Jerry Benisch says he's confident something like that won't ever happen again.
"We've actually got a lot of things in place, that weren't before. We've got responsible people. We've got multiple checks and balances. We've obviously got a new CPA firm that's working for us. It's night and day. It's not like they were done before," said Benisch.
Kennedy Little League has already seen improvements from last year. More than 700 kids are now part of the league which is more than ever.
Evangelist Franklin Graham prayed on a sidewalk outside the Pentagon Thursday after his invitation to a prayer service inside was withdrawn because of comments that insulted people of other religions. More>>
