MEDINA (WKOW) -- Authorities say an electrical problem started a fire that destroyed a barn in Dane County.

According to Dane County Sheriff's Office, crews were called to a fire on Box Elder Road in the town of Medina, near Marshall, just before 6 p.m. Sunday. A neighbor had called after seeing smoke and flames coming from a barn.

The barn was in flames when crews arrived but it was contained and extinguished quickly.

Authorities believe the fire started because of an electrical malfunction on a skid loader, which was parked inside the barn. No people were hurt, but some small livestock died in the fire. The barn, estimated at $250,000, is considered a total loss.
