Posted: Updated:
BELOIT (WKOW) -- A Beloit family's home is lost in an overnight fire.

The fire started just after midnight Monday in the 700 block of 10th Street in Beloit. Two adults and two children were home at the time, but were able to make it out of the duplex without injury.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire when they arrived. It took crews about an hour and a half to put the fire out. The blaze started in the bedroom, but the cause is still under investigation. The fire extended throughout the home, and the structure is a total loss.

The City of Beloit Fire Department tells 27 News there were smoke detectors at the residence, but the first crews to respond noted they did not activate.

The American Red Cross is helping the family.
