Odds don't go the way of the Bucks, get #2 pick

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -- With the NBA's worst record during the 2013-14 season the Bucks had the best odds of receiving the top overall pick in the NBA's Draft Lottery at 25%. The ball did not bounce the way of the Bucks, as the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team with a 1.7% chance of earning the top pick, will be selecting first overall in the NBA Draft for the second year in a row.

The No. 2 slot has yielded historically great NBA players. Since the league introduced the Lottery system in 1985, there have been 10 NBA All-Stars from the ranks of the second-overall selection, including 10-time All-Star Jason Kidd, nine-time All-Star Gary Payton and seven-time All-Star Alonzo Mourning. Both Payton and Mourning have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Additionally, reigning 2014 NBA MVP and four-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant was selected second in the 2007 NBA Draft.

The No. 2 pick has produced four Rookie of the Year winners over the last 20 years, and interestingly enough, since 1985, players picked second overall have enjoyed the longest careers of any top-4 picks, averaging 664 games per player.

Entering the Lottery, the Bucks had a 21.49 percent chance of landing the No. 2 pick. This is the first time in team history that Milwaukee will make a selection in the second slot. Additionally, the Bucks hold the 31st, 36th and 48thpicks in the second round of the Draft.
