Fountain flowing with talent for Madison Memorial

MADISON (WKOW) - Daurice Fountain is just a few months away from beginning his collegiate career as a two-sport athlete at Northern Iowa, but before he closes the book on his high school career, he wants to write a few more chapters.

The Madison Memorial senior notched three individual victories at this week's Big Eight Conference track and field meet. He won the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump. He actually broke the school record in the 110 hurdles by running it in 14.05 seconds.

"These past four years I've been working really hard to hopefully one day take down the 110 hurdles school record. To just do it yesterday, it was just a blessing."

School records are great and all, but Fountain has his sights set even higher. In two weeks, he hopes to run off with a couple of state championships and, maybe, even a state record in the 110 hurdles.

"I'm just trying to stay focused and just get back to La Crosse and hopefully break the state record, if I can."

Fountain came up just short of breaking the state record in his most recent race. His hurdles coach, Maggie Haggerman, is confident her star pupil will etch his name at the top of the record books before his career comes to a close.

"He's been working really hard and I have no doubt in my mind that he is capable of accomplishing that."
