BELOIT (WKOW) --  Beloit Police officials say the investigation continues into the fatal shooting early Thursday morning of a 25-year old man, and the wounding of a 26-year old man.

Police say they found multiple ammunition spent shell casings on Hull Avenue after being called for shots being fired on the 1400 block.

Authorities say Darius Kilgore of Beloit was brought to Beloit Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the shoulder area.  Kilgore was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for misdemeanor possession of cocaine and probation/parole violation.

Police officials say 25-year-old Jeffrey Hardnett from Beloit went to Beloit Memorial Hospital with multiple gunshots wounds.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"My son helped, and he gave people what they needed," Hardnett's mother, Patricia Wiggins tells 27 News.

"He had a big heart and a kind soul."

Wiggins says Hardnett leaves behind four young boys, with the oldest being only six years old.

Wiggins and other family members say Hardnett was focused on parenthood. They say they were unaware of anyone who might harm Hardnett.

Court records show Hardnett had an open, felony case, for what authorities say was domestic violence. Family members tell 27 News Hardnett was working with representatives of Community Action, Inc. of Beloit, in trying to get a job. Community Action executive director Lisa Furseth tells 27 News confidentiality rules bar her from discussing specific clients, but says the non-profit agency is involved with work readiness training and job placement.

Both Hardnett and Kilgore lived at Beloit addresses other than the Hull Avenue shooting scene. Neighbor Sandy Young says outsiders have brought violence to her street. But Young says she's known Hardnett since he was a toddler. Young says she was at her custodial job in New Glarus when the gunshots took place near her home. She says a friend informed her of what happened.

"And when she told me who it was, that's when I broke down and cried," Young says.

The investigation is still ongoing.  Anyone with information should call Beloit Police Department at 364-6801 or Beloit Area Crime Stoppers at 362-7463.
