Big summer tourism expected in Door County

Posted: Updated:
DOOR COUNTY (WKOW) -- This Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the summer tourism season.

State tourism officials believe it'll also be the beginning of a big year for tourism in Wisconsin.

Door County will be one of the hot spots. The State Department of Tourism says the county had an impact of more than $380 million last year.

Local businesses are expecting even bigger results this year.

"It's going to be a terrific year. We are all smiling at this time with reservations we have and we will get more to fill up and it is going to be a banner year, maybe the best year ever for us in Door County," said Bay Shore Inn Resort Manager Joe McMahon.

The Door County visitor's bureau says advance reservations at hotels and bed and breakfasts are already off the charts.
