Minhas Micro Distillery makes movie re-telling true story of former owner's kidnapping

Posted: Updated:
MONROE (WKOW) -- Minhas Brewery and Micro Distillery in Monroe is known for making great brews, but now it's making a movie.

The brewery filmed a movie recently called "The Kidnapping of Fred Blumer," based on the real-life story of its former owner, who was taken by several kidnappers in 1931. At the time, the brewery was called Blumer Brewing Co. Blumer's kidnappers asked for a $150,000 ransom. His wife negotiated them down to $6,000, according to Lance Ray, who works for Minhas now. Blumer was let go after about a week.

Ray says the movie will premier June 14th. They plan a Red Carpet event that's invite only, but will do drawings on their Facebook page for people to get tickets. To enter, click on this link.

Ray says the Brewery and Micro Distillery is also thanking firefighters who saved the brewery from a fire last year by introducing a firehouse ale. Minhas is also launching its Blumer's Moonshine and a Blumer's apple pie flavored moonshine in time for the movie.
