Students donate stuffed animals to Madison Police

MADISON (WKOW) -- Elementary students donate stuffed animals to the Madison Police Department on Friday.

Police Chief Mike Koval stopped by Stephens Elementary to pick up the stuffed animals.

Koval told the students the toys are kept in the back of squad cars, and are handed out to comfort kids in crisis, "If you provide just some small effort like that, that can open the child up to being willing to trust who might otherwise be a complete stranger, and relate a little bit beyond the badge to see I'm just another person like they are."

Each student also wrote background stories for the stuffed animals they're donating, which they read to Chief Koval during his visit.
