No occupants injured in Fitchburg apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

FITCHBURG (WKOW) – No occupants were injured in an overnight apartment building fire early Saturday, but one firefighter was taken to the hospital for dehydration and exhaustion before being released later in the day.

Fitchburg Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Richard Roth says authorities responded to the fire at 1104 Whispering Pines Way at about 1:52 a.m. All occupants of the eight-unit apartment building were able to escape before authorities arrived.

Roth said the fire caused heavy damage to a second floor apartment that was in the area where the fire appears to have started. The unit behind that one also has fire damage. Two units below those apartments sustained both smoke and water damage.

The Red Cross helped displaced victims. Roth says the fire remains under investigation.
