Madison College run-rules Westchester in NJCAA World Series opener

ENID, OK (Madison College) -- Luke Yapp's seventh inning home run ended the game for the WolfPack as they beat Westchester Community College, 11-3, on run-rule. Madison College advances to play the winner of Southeastern CC (IA) and Northern Oklahoma College-End on Monday night at 7:00 PM.

Yapp's home run was one of fifteen hits for the WolfPack in support of Corey Fischer and Ryne Blanton. Madison College scored multiple runs in the first, third and sixth on their way to the run-rule win.

In the bottom of the first inning, Dylan Detert doubled to right field scoring Brandon Gibis and Keith Browning to get on the scoreboard first. In the third inning, Keith Browning doubled to right, scoring Danny Krause, before Dan Schmidt homered to left, scoring Browning. In the sixth inning, the WolfPack used five hits, including a Dan Schmidtdouble, to score five runs. With the score, 10-2, in the top of the seventh Westchester's Fabio Ricci hit a two-out homerun to extend the game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Luke Yapp led off with a homerun to rightfield to end the game 11-3 on run-rule.

Corey Fischer earned the win by pitching five and one third innings, striking out two and surrendering two earned runs on five hits. Ryne Blanton came in in relief, pitching one and a third, striking out two and giving up one earned run.

With the victory, the WolfPack advance to play the winner of Southeastern CC (IA) and Northern Oklahoma College-End on Monday, May 26 at 7:00 PM. For more tournament information visit our tournament page.
