Eau Claire man killed in car-deer crash in Jefferson County

WATERTOWN (WKOW) -- A man from Eau Claire was killed Sunday after the car he was riding in slammed into a deer on the interstate in Jefferson County.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says it happened around 11:30 a.m. Sunday on I-94 near State Highway 26 near Watertown. Troopers say the car hit the deer and the animal smashed through the windshield, injuring the driver and passenger.

Both people were taken to the hospital. The passenger, a 54-year-old man from Eau Claire, died at the hospital. The driver, a 53-year-old woman from Eau Claire, had injuries that are not life-threatening. Their names have not been released.
