WAUSAU (WKOW) -- Police are recommending a father be charged with recklessly endangering safety after he allowed his 11-year-old daughter to drive a vehicle. She crashed the car into a tree.

Our affiliate, WAOW, reports the incident happened around 6 p.m. on Friday.  Police say the father asked his daughter to drive after he had been drinking.

A police report says the father received a citation for permitting an unauthorized minor to drive.  They are also recommending the criminal charge. Captain Ben Bliven with the Wausau Police Department says, "Obviously having an 11-year-old drive is very unsafe and it's unsafe for the 11-year-old but for everyone else in the car, everybody else on the street. They just don't have that training to be able to drive."

The case has been referred to the district attorney's office.
