Memorial held for Santa Barbara shooting victims

Posted: Updated:
SANTA BARBARA, CA (WKOW) -- Thousands of students gathered on the University of California, Santa Barbara campus Tuesday to remember six of their classmates who died in a shooting rampage.

UC president Janet Napolitano urged everyone to remember the victims for what they did in their brief lives.

"It is important that we not lose sight of the lives we have gathered to remember. All died much too young. But it's important that we do not let the arithmetic of this atrocity define them."

UC Santa Barbara canceled classes Tuesday and declared it a day of mourning and reflection.

Police say the six were killed Friday by Elliot Rodger, who later took his own life.
