Police think woman stole back cats taken by animal control

Posted: Updated:
LA CROSSE (WKOW) -- Police suspect a woman whose cats were removed from her home by animal control officers was the person who broke into the Coulee Region Humane Society and took them back.

Investigators say 15 cats and kittens were taken, apparently by someone who shattered a window at the humane society last weekend. Eight of the cats taken belonged to the woman, while the others looked similar to her animals.

The La Crosse Tribune reports rescuers acting on an anonymous tip recovered 12 of the cats in a field in Holmen, near where the woman was arrested.

Authorities seized the animals May 2 from the woman's apartment, where authorities say they had been living in squalor.
