MILWAUKEE (AP) -- An 18-year-old man has been charged in the shooting of a 10-year-old girl on a Milwaukee playground.
A criminal complaint filed Wednesday says Sylvester Lewis told police he fired toward the playground after a man who was hanging out there shot at him.
Lewis has been charged with first-degree reckless injury and two other felonies. He faces more than 47 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
Police Chief Edward Flynn told reporters Monday that Lewis has 15 previous arrests. Court records show he received a 12-month sentence in January 2013 for a burglary conviction but the sentence was stayed.
Lewis does not have an attorney listed in online court records in the shooting case. A message left for his attorney in the burglary case was not immediately returned.
On Wednesday, Milwaukee Police also arrested a second man involved in the shooting, a 28-year-old from Milwaukee.
