Mosquito season is here

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Those pesky mosquitoes have returned in full force, and they're not only annoying, their bite makes some people sick.

Ruth Marx, an epidemiologist, says most people who are infected with West Nile Virus won't even know it.

"The estimates are about 80 percent will not even show any sometimes, but 20 percent will," Marx said.

To avoid exposure, Marx suggests you cover up and limit outdoor activity at dusk and dawn.

Health officials have also activated the State Dead Bird Hotline, which is used to track West Nile Virus. So far this year, Dodge County is the only part of the state that's had a confirmed case of the virus in a bird.
