Racine Dog shot in leg, good samaritans pay for surgery

Posted: Updated:
RACINE (WKOW) -- A four-month-old puppy shot in a drive-by shooting in Racine is on the mend, thanks to the kindness of strangers.

Shakyra Ellis says her 15-year-old son was walking their dog Buddy, when a bullet narrowly missed her son and hit their puppy in the leg.

The family rushed their dog to the local animal hospital, then something amazing happened.

After posting a message about what happened on Facebook, Shakyra says, :"The post was probably up for 15 to 20 minutes, and there were cars coming to the E.R."

By the time Buddy was out of surgery, complete strangers who caught wind of what had happened on Facebook came to the hospital to cover the medical expenses.

Other than a temporary cast, Buddy is no worse for wear and is on his way to making a full recovery.
