California teacher motivates students through rap

Posted: Updated:
SAN FRANCISCO (WKOW) -- It's not the typical classroom you find in the country, but then again, Tom McFadden is not a typical teacher.

He raps his lessons, and his students are suddenly more interested in science.  The students have even begun writing their own raps, showing that they truly understand the information.

McFadden wrote grants to fund the video series raising nearly $13,000 on Kickstarter.

His students' rap about Rosalind Franklin, the woman whose contribution to the discovery of DNA was overshadowed by male scientists, has been viewed online over 150,000 times.

Jayda Neor, a 13-year-old student, says "Usually I forget things, I don't have a good memory, but this I remember very well!"
