Debate over toll roads in Wisconsin

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) – The race for Governor in Wisconsin continues to spark some back-and-forth over infrastructure.

Democrat Mary Burke says Wisconsin needs to do a better job investing in infrastructure, as well as making sure those investments are paid for.

Burke says she doesn’t want to add to the states debt or dip into the general purpose revenue.

“That’s my concern is that we’re going ahead and spending money without knowing exactly how are we going to pay for things,” said Burke.

Governor Scott Walker responded by saying, “A bit of amnesia for Mary Burke, who worked for Jim Doyle, the very governor who took a billion dollars out of the state transportation fund. We’re trying to back-fill on the money Doyle raided from the transportation fund. She didn’t speak out then,” said Walker.

Walker says he does not support the idea of toll roads in Wisconsin.
