Oak Creek Mayor writing book about Sikh Temple shooting

Posted: Updated:
OAK CREEK, Wis (WKOW) -- The mayor of Oak Creek helped lead the city through its most difficult time.

The shooting at the Sikh Temple happened nearly two years ago. Now the mayor is writing a book about the incident.

Steve Scaffidi says he thinks about the shooting every day, and writing the book has been almost therapeutic. The book includes interviews with people who were inside the temple and first responders, like Lieutenant Brian Murphy, who was shot more than a dozen times and survived.

Scaffidi says it covers a community that's become stronger.

"Because something bad happened, doesn't have to be your story. It can be the response and everything else that happened afterwards so that's the way we've kind of looked at it," said Scaffidi.

The book's working title is "6 Minutes" which is how long the shooting lasted once police were on scene.
