SAN FRANCISCO, California (WKOW) -- The F.B.I. is conducting an "active investigation" for a man they say has ties to bomb making materials.

The F.B.I says 42-year-old Ryan Kelly Chamberlain II should be considered armed and dangerous.  They found explosive materials at his San Francisco residence.  Agents searched the home with hazmat gear with a warrant Saturday morning.  They are not yet releasing why they were searching his place or any possible motive.  Though the apartment is still sealed off,  an F.B.I. spokesperson says there is no immediate threat to the public.

Chamberlain ran as a Republican for an Assembly seat in 2002.  People who know him say this incident is out-of-character for him.

Chamberlain is described as a white male.  He is around 6'3" tall and 225 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.  He was last seen wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and blue jeans, and driving a white 2008 Nissan Altima with either California plate 7FQY085 or Texas plate BX9M042.

Anyone who may have seen him is asked to contact police.
