WWII veteran receives high school diploma

Posted: Updated:
GREENFIELD, Indiana (WKOW) -- 91-year-old Walter Worland has waited decades to receive his high school diploma, and after over 70 years, he finally got it.

The WWII veteran left high school to go fight in the war.  Walter's family says that since returning from combat, he has been giving back to the community.

He established a scholarship program for Hancock County seniors, funded the junior high's library, and volunteered for countless local organizations.

Walter says he hopes his fellow 2013 graduates will carry on his legacy of service. Now that he has his diploma,  Worland is looking forward to his next milestone -- his 100th birthday celebration.
