MARKESAN (WKOW) --- The Grand River Fire District responded to a fire at 165 W. Manchester Street in Markesan on Saturday, May 31.

A witness noticed the fire on the front porch around 3:20 p.m.

Officials say the flames spread to the home and because of the brisk winds at the time, the fire also spread to 149 West Manchester as well as broke the windows to a garage at 185 West Manchester.

The family at 165 West Manchester were alerted by smoke detectors and was able to get out.  A couple and their two young children were able to escape the lower apartment.  A 30-year-old woman on the second floor was able to get out, and the 28-year-old male in that apartment injured his knee after jumping out the window.

The family at 149 W. Manchester was not home at the time.

No cause of the fire has been determined.
