Badgers restructure cross country and track and field coaching staff

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) - The University of Wisconsin has restructured the coaching staff of the women's cross country and track and field programs. The position of head women's coach has been eliminated. Subsequently, director of athletics Barry Alvarez announced that longtime women's cross country and track and field coach Jim Stintzi has been relieved of his duties.

"We appreciate Jim's efforts as the women's head coach for the past 10 years but we feel that it is now time to have one head coach for our program. We merged the men's and women's programs nearly a year ago and this is the final step to truly becoming a combined program."

The men's and women's teams will now be under Mick Byrne. He holds the title of Director of Cross Country and Track and Field. Byrne will have a staff of five assistants. Four of those positions are currently filled. A national search is underway to fill the final opening.
