Andy North and friends step up to fight cancer

Posted: Updated:
WISCONSIN DELLS (WKOW) - Andy North has seen the horrors of cancer up close and personal. He knows most of the rest of us have as well. That is why the former PGA standout hosted another Andy North and Friends golf tournament to raise money for cancer research.

"You're sitting at a table with eight people. Three of those eight are going to have cancer and the other five are going to be touched with it with someone close to them. So, this is something every one of us has to understand. The more money we can raise for research. The sooner we can not have to have events like this."

North's friends this year included Aaron Rodgers, Tom Watson, Annika Sorenstam, Jon Leuer and Bo Ryan. The Badgers basketball coach has become a regular at the event.

"It's great. For what happens in this area, to see all these things and to see something like this every year has been truly heartfelt, I know, for everyone involved."

This year, the event raised $920,000. Over the past five years, Andy North and Friends have raised over $4 million for the UW Carbone Cancer Center in Madison.
