Madison firm with breast cancer treatment concept wins competition

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison start-up firm with a concept to help surgeons identify tumor size and location in breast cancer patients beat out 291 other start-ups to win the $25,000 prize in the annual Governor's Business Plan Contest.

Elucent Medical's Laura King says the firm's wand reader will help physicians pinpoint the margins of tumors in real-time, and should do away with a painful, invasive, diagnostic procedure.

Thirty judges scored Elucent's business plan highest among thirteen finalist companies in the competition.
