MADISON (WKOW) -- An online study ranks UW-Madison as the second most influential American university on Twitter.
The university says the study, conducted by the online marketing firm Coldlime, ranks each university account by its social authority, a measure of successful and engaging activity on Twitter. @UWMadison scored 79 points, the highest of any Big Ten campus.
“Social media gives us an opportunity to connect with people all over the world in a way we never could have just a short time ago,” Vince Sweeney, vice chancellor for university relations, says in a statement.
@UWMadison tweets the most of any university, averaging 15.2 tweets a day.
The first ranked college in the study is the University of Texas at Austin, getting 81 points for social authority. Indiana came in third at 78 points, followed by Harvard with 77.
UW-Madison also says it ranked second in a different study that looked at Instagram engagement among higher education.
