UPDATE: 2 bodies found in suitcases alongside Town of Geneva road

Posted: Updated:
TOWN OF GENEVA, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Town of Geneva Police Department releases more information about what led them to discover two bodies in suitcases along the side of a highway.

In the early afternoon Thursday, the Town of Geneva Highway Department was cutting the grass along North Como Road. An employee noticed two suitcases in the ditch area and placed them on the side of the road to allow the grass to be cut. Around 3:00 p.m., a citizen called police to complain about the two suitcases sitting along the highway on North Como Road, just east of County Road H.

"They were black and pink," caller Dan Sojka tells 27 News.

"They were not a full size suitcase, they were more of a traveler style type, but they were definitely bulging," Sojka says.

Authorities say officers responding opened the suitcases and discovered two bodies, one in each suitcase.

Autopsies were conducted Friday at the Waukesha Medical Examiner's Office. The Town of Geneva Police Department is working with other law enforcement agencies in the area to review missing person's reports. Police hope the autopsy will help them identify the individuals. No information on the sex of the victims, or their approximate ages, has been released.

"They were in a ditch, some long grass area wasn't really easy to see," Town of Geneva Police Chief Steven Hurley tells 27 News of the suitcases.

"But there wasn't a great effort to, there are better places they could have been placed (to conceal them)," Hurley says.

Pat Moran is helping his sister with her property close to the discovery of the bodies. He tells 27 News the bizarre find reminds him of his time in California.

"If it's one of those drug-related, dumps out in the country, that seems to happen all the time in California," Moran says.

"This is the world we live in. Weird stuff happens."

The Walworth County Sheriff's Office is helping with the investigation. Police call this an isolated incident and say the crime did not occur where the bodies were located.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Town of Geneva Police Department at (262) 248-9926. You can also submit tips anonymously at https://www.tipsubmit.com, text a tip to "CRIMES" (274637) and being your message with tip4wc followed by your tip, or report the tip to the Walworth County Crime Stoppers at (262) 723-2677 (COPS).
