D-Day+70 event held at Capitol Rotunda Friday

MADISON (WKOW) --- Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Secretary John A. Scocos hosted D-Day +70  to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Normandy. 

The ceremony will recognized the sacrifices of Wisconsin’s veterans from that day and others.

The event was held on Friday at the Wisconsin State Capitol.

The program, D-Day +70, is being presented in partnership with the Wisconsin Honor Flights and the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.

As part of the ceremony, World War II veterans were honored. The honorees included: 1st Sgt. Ray Nelson of Beloit, 401st GIR, 101st Airborne, 325 GIR, 82nd Airborne; Staff Sgt. Herb Huebschen of Beloit, 325 GIR, 82nd Airborne; Staff Sgt. Gene Strutzenberg of Brodhead, 504 PIR, 82nd Airborne, Staff Sgt. Lawrence Michaelis of Madison, 327th GIR, 101st Airborne, and Staff Sgt. Connie Allord of Madison, U.S. Marine Corps.
