MADISON (WKOW) -- The city's Plan Commission delayed a vote on the future of a Civil War-era building in downtown Madison.

Keller Real Estate Group wants to put an apartment building on the properties of 502 & 504 W. Main Street. Plans call for the demolishing or moving of buildings at 502 & 504 to make way for a four-story, mixed-use building containing 3,200 square feet of retail space and 18 apartments.

The building at 502 W. Main has been there for 150 years.

Committee members voted Monday night to refer a decision to their meeting in two weeks.

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Plan Commission will decide the fate of a Civil War-era building on Main Street in Madison Monday night.

According to the State Journal, the Keller Group is trying to demolish the building and an adjacent building for apartment units.  City planners are urging the Keller Group to move the building that has been there for 150 years, but developers worry the building might be too fragile.

The building has been used for a variety things.  Recently, it had been a florist shop with upstairs apartments.
