Homeless man arrested for stealing tip jar from Starbucks

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- A 53-year-old thief, running from officers Sunday morning, shouted: "You can't catch me!"

Kirk Becker had just dashed out of Starbucks on E. Main Street, carrying the tip jar.  A 23-year-old server had to turn Becker's request for coffee down as he did not have any money.  That's when he swiped the jar and quipped, "There are homeless people out here.  You should invite them in for free coffee."

Central District officers were quickly on scene and were able to take Becker into custody after a very short foot chase.  While being cuffed, Becker shouted, "I do not forgive you!"

Becker was arrested for theft and resisting/obstructing.
