Wisconsin veteran helping vets get jobs

Posted: Updated:
WAUSAU (WAOW) - A Wisconsin veteran has created a company to help other veterans get a job.

The Veteran Beer Company was founded by a former Navy member and was launched in November 2013. The founder says the unemployment rate for veterans is staggering at nearly three times the national average. He says he created the company to reach out to other former service members.

"When I heard the terrible figure about veterans committing suicide, I realized it was an urgent problem and that we had to take urgent action," said founder of Veteran Beer Company Paul Jenkins.

The beer is brewed in Minnesota. The company has 5 full time employees and 44 part time employees, all of them veterans. The company also uses small businesses owned by veterans to do its packaging and for all paper products.
