Janesville home damaged by fire

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- The Janesville Fire Department responded to a report of a residential fire at 1600 block of S. River Road late Wednesday morning. 

Upon arriving, firefighters found that smoke was coming from all the windows of the home. After searching the home for a source of the fire, it was discovered that the blaze was burning in the basement. Shortly after the fire was put out and was contained to the basement.

Two couple told officials that they smelled an odor coming from the home and left to get a fan to removed the smell. When they got back, firefighters were on scene.

The two occupants are staying with family members for the time while their home is being repaired. Damages are estimated at $32,000. The cause has yet to be determined and is still being investigated.
