Fitchburg awarded $1 Million transportation grant

Posted: Updated:
FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- The City of Fitchburg is awarded a $1 million transportation grant for design and construction of new streets.
Governor Scott Walker announced Thursday Fitchburg will receive a Transportation Economic Assistance (TEA) grant. The award will go towards the design and construction of two new municipal streets: Sprocket and Spoke Drives.

"We are pleased that the Department of Transportation made this crucial investment in this important infrastructure," Fitchburg Mayor Shawn Pfaff said. "It will directly lead to business expansion with job retention and creation, which will help our economy grow by providing more family supporting jobs."

The addition of these streets will provide safe and more convenient access to expanding Fitchburg businesses, Certco Inc. and Saris Cycling Group, Inc.  The TEA grant will enable these two businesses to retain more than 400 jobs with an average wage of $22.15 per hour.
WisDOT's TEA grant covers 36 percent of the $2,795,623 construction project. The remainder is covered by the city of Fitchburg.

The project should be completed by November 2014.
