Man who ran over son during jealous rage gets 55 years in prison

MADISON (WKOW) -- A judge Thursday sentenced a man who ran over and killed his two-year-old son, and attempted to kill the boy's mother, to 55 years in prison.

32-year-old Jesus Castillo-Dimas had confronted his estranged wife, when he backed up his SUV over the toddler boy in Fitchburg in July 2012. After running over the child, Castillo-Dimas also stabbed the woman and nearly killed her, and attacked her boyfriend.

At the sentencing hearing, Castillo-Dimas asked for forgiveness for his actions, and said he will never forget his son.

But he also indicated his estranged wife had harmed him.

Defense attorneys claimed what happened two years ago was a horrible accident. Judge Ellen Berz said it was no accident, but the consequence of a horrible crime.

Berz also said the father's killing of his young son was not mitigated by his angry state over his estranged wife's relationship."So what?" Berz said. "You do not  own her."

Berz says even emergency responders who witnessed the aftermath of the toddler's death will be "forever scarred."

Castillo-Dimas' running over of the child was considered reckless homicide.
